NEC Concludes Workshop Promoting Inclusive Electoral Management in Ganta

GANTA, Nimba County — The National Elections Commission (NEC) has concluded the second phase of its workshop on Inclusive Electoral Management: Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion, with 27 staff members from the Commission’s headquarters and magistrate offices successfully completing the three-day training in Ganta.

The capacity-building exercise was held in collaboration with UN Women and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Liberia, under the Liberia Electoral Support Project (LESP). The project is co-funded by the European Union (EU) in Liberia, the Embassy of Ireland, and the Embassy of Sweden in Monrovia.

Over the course of the workshop, participants engaged in interactive, scenario-based sessions designed to strengthen their understanding and practical skills in integrating gender equality and disability inclusion across all stages of the electoral process. These include voter registration, civic and voter education, candidate nomination, polling, vote counting, results management, and the handling of electoral complaints.

The training also provided participants with an opportunity to reflect on how internal policies, human resource procedures, and workplace practices within the Commission can better support inclusiveness and equitable participation.

Drawing from the internationally recognized Building Resources in Democracy, Governance, and Elections (BRIDGE) curriculum modules—specifically those on Gender Equality and Elections and Disability Rights and Elections—the exercise emphasized practical strategies for incorporating inclusive principles into everyday institutional work.

The conclusion of this second training cohort represents another significant step in implementing NEC’s Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Policy. It also contributes to the development of the Commission’s forthcoming Implementation Action Plan, reaffirming NEC’s commitment to ensuring that Liberia’s electoral processes are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to the needs of all citizens.
