Ministry of Education and UNICEF Launch Five-Year Education Plan

Yesterday, Liberia’s Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Maley Jallah, and UNICEF Country Representative Andy Brooks signed the 2026–2027 Rolling Work Plan. This agreement officially launches the new UNICEF Country Programme of Cooperation for Liberia, which will guide their partnership from 2026 to 2030. The signing establishes a clear, long-term strategy for government and international cooperation to improve the nation’s education sector.

The new education plan highlights two major priorities for the coming years. First, it focuses on advancing education for adolescent girls to ensure they receive the learning opportunities they deserve. Second, the agreement provides direct backing for President Joseph Boakai’s “Back to My Classroom” initiative. This national program is designed to locate out-of-school children across the country and bring them safely back into the classroom to learn and grow.

To guarantee these programs are effective, the Liberian government and UNICEF will implement several key improvements. These include stronger decentralization efforts to empower local school districts and a shift toward making smarter planning decisions based on solid data. Furthermore, the partnership will introduce new digital solutions to modernize teaching methods and student learning. Officials stated that these joint efforts are dedicated to serving every child, with a special focus on reaching students in Liberia’s most remote and underserved communities.
